Grsync ubuntu source mount1/17/2024 msdos2 in the example is o course sda2, the second partition, if I were trying to move this OS to /dev/sda3 it'd be ie: 'hd0,msdos3'. the root= which is the partition it was installed on, every instance of that in the grub.cfg file has to be changed to be the destination you're planning on restoring to ie: set root='hd0,msdos2' That is /dev/sda2, hd0=sda, hd1 would be sdb and so on. Mentioned already 2 things must be changed to be right in this file. If I ran "sudo blkid" copied over the present UUID for ie: /dev/sda5 and editing the fstab file prematurely, in the backup I'm planning to move/restore somewhere, guess what, yep it's going to be wrong and the restore won't work until it's been corrected.Įqually the /boot/grub/grub.cfg file has to be correct in the restore for it to be correct on the OS when it is restored to whichever partition or hdd-etc. You also want to do such formatting BEFORE you edit this or the file I'm going to get to in a sec.Įvery time you format a partition it's UUID is going to change. Ok, well have found it's better to have a freshly formatted target partition(the one you're going to restore it to.) As mentioned already in this how-to, is very important that you change the /etc/fstab file in the backup to be the target partitions UUID and if you're going to change something like the /root file system's file format, that needs to be done in fstab. Wanted to add some updated babble about this, clarify some stuff I've found and hopefully some valid tips/pointers for it too. Now that those files have been edited, time to mount the target partition so I can use rsync to copy the backup over to it. You'll see repeated entries of 'gpt7' = sda7, I had to change these to 'gpt4' = sda4. I have to change all the UUID entries for the old /root partition(sda7's) to the new UUID(sda4's) and also have to change the partition numbers to point to sda4. Again open and edit the file as root-etc. You'll find it at /boot/grub/ in the backup. Next it's time to edit the grub.cfg file in the backup. Then I commented out all the other entries except for the ESP-efi partition and the new one for root(sda4). As root I open the /etc/fstab file in the backup and change the root partitions UUID to be the one for sda4(find it with the "sudo blkid" command). I need to edit a couple of the files in the backup I just made. Now I want to move it to a new partition on the drive(sda4). Once rsync finished I had a complete backup of my OS. I'm excluding a bunch of directories above because they are populated at system boot and excluding mnt and media because I don't want rsync to copy my whole shared data partition mounted at /mnt/Data to itself. Rsync -aAXv -exclude=/dev/* -exclude=/proc/* -exclude=/sys/* -exclude=/tmp/* -exclude=/run/* -exclude=/mnt/* -exclude=/media/* -exclude=/lost+found / /mnt/Data/Backup/hydrogen/ -delete I created a directory named Backup on the shared partition and made another directory named hydrogen inside it. My shared partition is sda8 in this scenario and as mentioned is already mounted at boot. Let's say the new one is sda4 and the gnu/nix OS I want to backup is sda7. I already had the shared ext4 formatted partition set to automount with an entry for it in fstab, at /mnt/Data.įired up gparted and setup a new partition at the front of my hard drive also formatted as ext4. Looked messy, so enter rsync to make a backup and then relocate to continuous partitions at the front of the drive. These partitions were stuck in the middle of the hard drive with big unallocated chunks before and after. I not only wanted a backup in this case, I also wanted to move my main install and the shared partition I use to store a lot of data on my laptop. Now credit where due I just went to the blessed Arch wiki and got an overview of the process. Make sure rsync is installed, if not obviously install it. Decided to go with rsync, pretty cool util with lotsa nixy goodness cooked in. OK well for a long time been meaning to settle on a decent backup solution. Are some minor differences, though the cmds-etc as pertains to rsync work the same regardless. Update: For people doing this on a bios/mbr setup see post #20 below.

Brisk walking benefits for brain1/17/2024 What do we know today about the benefits of walking? Clinical studies and experiments have demonstrated that the walker’s mental movement fosters creativity. Sainte Beeuve wrote that flânerie was “the opposite of doing nothing.” And Balzac called wandering “gastronomy for the eyes.” The benefits of walking But around that same time, advocates of the art of strolling also began to appear. In 1872, the Larousse Great Universal Dictionary of the 19th century described them ambivalently as equally restless and idle. The French poet Charles Baudelaire described flâneurs - those romantic Parisian walkers - as “dilettante observers of urban life.” They were initially considered useless and lazy men who contributed little to society and wasted their time. The walk helps to keep both neurotransmitters at high levels.” A good daily dose of dopamine will increase another neurotransmitter, serotonin, which is responsible for our mood. Our brains release dopamine, “a neurotransmitter that marks novelty in the brain and allows us to identify danger or pay attention. Walking through unknown landscapes, Ribeiro explains, can have even more benefits. Sometimes, people who struggle with classic meditation can achieve it during a walk.” It’s very difficult, but if it is achieved, the walk will have all the benefits of meditation. “To do so, you have to leave behind thoughts about the past and future and concentrate on the present. Ribeiro explains that if the walker makes a conscious effort to “be in the here and now,” walking becomes a meditative act. That is a magnificent exercise, because in the brain, one hemisphere tends to dominate the other,” says doctor Bruno Ribeiro, professor in the Human Anatomy and Psychobiology department of the University of Murcia, Spain. The walk makes them communicate with each other. In this way, both cerebral hemispheres are activated. As you walk, you turn your head: your field of vision changes and you encounter visual stimuli to the right and to the left. If you walk in places you already know, the first positive effects are cardiovascular activation: if you move your legs, you move your heart. “There are two kinds of walking: doing it in familiar places and in new places. When asked about the benefits of wandering aimlessly, a neuroscientist spends 20 minutes enumerating the reasons to walk for 20 to 30 minutes every day. Paradoxically, in the hyperactive 21st century, going for a meandering walk is starting to get good press.

Lexi euphoria actor1/17/2024 Now it sort of makes me want to watch teen shows that have actual teenagers in them, just to see the comparison between acting skills and style. While this isn’t necessarily new for anyone out there – we all know that teen dramas often use adult actors – it’s still interesting to see the comparison of ages. However, Reid is now twenty – and slowly inching her way up the line with the rest of her co-stars of not being an actual teen on a teen drama. Apatow began acting in 2005 at the age of seven. When the show originally filmed before its 2019 premiere, Reid was much closer to her character in age, who is only 14, as she was sixteen when the show came out. It’s safe to predict that most of the supporting roles will be reprised, with Dominic Fike as Elliot, Austin Abrams as Ethan Daley, and Algee Smith as Cassie’s ex-boyfriend, Chris McKay. Euphorias Lexi Howard is portrayed by Maude Apatow, an American actress from Los Banos, California. Maude Apatow is best known for her role as Lexi Howard on the HBO teen drama television series Euphoria. She plays Gia Bennett, Rue’s little sister. The young actress has been in Hollywood for some time, appearing in projects such as When They See Us, The Invisible Man, Don’t Let Go and more, and in 2023, she had a guest role as Riley on The Last of Us. In an effort to arrive at the correct answer, we have thoroughly scrutinized each. Gifted kid burnout list1/17/2024 Some autistic people learn to speak early instead of late, and a lot of them have very active echolalia, the phenomenon of repeating phrases that others have said. I hope that list of traits sounds familiar to you because they are all associated with autism. (By the way, “gifted” is even a diagnosis in some countries, though in the US, it is just a character type). Now what if I told you that the characteristics associated with gifted children were advanced vocabulary, a love for reading, fixations on specific topics, and isolation from peers? Some teachers and psychologists even cite sensitivity to sensory and emotional stimuli, as well as a “spiky skill set”, as signs of giftedness. (I am a grateful, though also slightly bitter, member of the third category). Or, alternatively alternatively, they were given a choice on where to apply themselves, as long as it was somewhere, and are still actively learning to this day. Or, alternatively, they were never challenged, always assumed they were fine as they were, so they were left to grow bored and stagnate their way into a hazy depression. They were so smart, had so much potential, so adults kept pushing them, adding more and more advanced classes and extracurricular activities to their schedules until they crashed from sheer overwork and the pressure to always be perfect. Maybe you or someone you know was labeled as “gifted” as a child because they could read, write, calculate, and recite more competently than their peers. You have probably seen those memes about “burnt-out former gifted kids”, with their addiction to caffeine, low self-esteem and self-expectations, and complete absence of caring despite claiming to be very smart. Hopefully, I will also make some people feel seen. I would like to start with a warning that this subject is one that I have a lot of strong feelings toward.

Median matlab tools graph1/16/2024 For example, if the three outliers in Figure 8 are outside the expected range of values, you would need to determine if they are valid data points or not. You may find that the outliers are errors in your data or you may find that they are unusual for some other reason. The outliers affect the mean, median, and other percentiles. Because extreme points are highlighted in a box plot, you can easily identify the data points for investigation. The variable Calories is continuous, so a box plot makes sense. The cereal data in the box plot below shows results from measuring calories per serving for 76 types of cereal. Use the calculated statistics to plot the results and draw a box plot.Calculate the maximum length of the whiskers by multiplying the IQR by 1.5.Calculate the interquartile range (IQR) as the difference between the 75 th and 25 th percentiles.Calculate the median, 25 th, and 75 th percentiles. With these five numbers, you can create a box plot, meaning that with any given data set, you can generate a box plot in five steps: Today, most people use software to create box plots, thus avoiding manual arithmetic and reducing errors. A box plot is based on what is known as the five-number summary, which is the minimum, 25 th percentile, median, 75 th percentile, and maximum values from a data set. In the past, box plots were created manually. The box plot helps identify the 25 th and 75 th percentiles better than the histogram, while the histogram helps you see the overall shape of your data better than the box plot. The box plot helps you see skewness, because the line for the median will not be near the center of the box if the data is skewed. You might find it helpful to use both types of graphs with your data. These data points are worthy of review to determine if they are outliers or errors the whiskers will not include these outliers. These points are often called outliers. An outlier is more extreme than the expected variation. If the data do not extend to the end of the whiskers, then the whiskers extend to the minimum and maximum data values. If there are values that fall above or below the end of the whiskers, they are plotted as dots. The whiskers represent the expected variation of the data. The whiskers extend 1.5 times the IQR from the top and bottom of the box. The lines that extend from the box are called whiskers. The length of the box is the difference between these two percentiles and is called the interquartile range (IQR). These two quantiles are also called quartiles because each cuts off a quarter (25%) of the data. The bottom and top of the box show the 25 th and 75 th quantiles, or percentiles. If the data are skewed, the median will be closer to the top or to the bottom of the box. If the data are symmetrical, the median will be in the center of the box. Half of the data is above this value, and half is below. The center line in the box shows the median for the data.See the "Comparing outlier and quantile box plots" section below for another type of box plot. The term “box plot” refers to an outlier box plot this plot is also called a box-and-whisker plot or a Tukey box plot.

But let's start with a scene from "Uncut Gems," with Howard, Sandler's character, placing bets with his bookie on the Boston Celtics and Kevin Garnett. We'll hear about Adam Sandler's work in comedy later in this interview. Terry interviewed Adam Sandler and the Safdie brothers in 2019 when "Uncut Gems" was released. The film was directed by Josh and Benny Safdie, whose father worked in the Diamond District when they were kids. He's also a gambler deep in debt to a loan shark whose goons are after him. In the 2019 thriller "Uncut Gems," he played Howard Ratner, a jeweler in Manhattan's Diamond District who always has a deal or con going and never stops talking. But Adam Sandler has also given some terrific performances in dramas. For that work, he'll be awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor this weekend at the Kennedy Center, joining an impressive list of recipients that includes Jonathan Winters, Carl Reiner, Whoopi Goldberg, Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy, Tina Fey, Jon Stewart and Richard Pryor, who was the first recipient in 1998. Adam Sandler is famous for his comedy films and his performances on "Saturday Night Live" in the '90s. |
